How long does it take to receive a custom quote?
This depends on the complexity of your quote request. The vast majority of our estimates are done within 24 hours.
How long are your estimates valid for?
Estimates expire after 30 days. After that period you would need to request a new estimate.
How do I proceed after I receive an estimate from you?
You will receive a custom estimate via email. If you would like to proceed with the order based on that estimate, you can simply respond to that email. Once the estimate has become a job, you will receive a confirmation of the order.
How do I check the status of my quote request?
Email email@example.com or call 888.747.9590 requesting status of a custom quote, along with some specifics about the job.
If I am supplying artwork, how should I prepare the file?
In general, we would like to see a press quality PDF with all fonts converted to paths, 1/8" bleed on all 4 sides. You can download our spec sheet for additional information. If you have specific questions, you may email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 330.629.8616 and ask to speak to someone in the art department.
I am supplying artwork, but am uncertain that all the specifications are correct? Do you check this?
RL Smith Graphics will review your file. If any adjustments or alternations need to be made, you will be charged additional fees.
I received a proof and noticed an error on the art I submitted. Can I submit a new art file?
You may submit new artwork, but please keep in mind that you will be charged an additional fee for the extra time spent on your files during the proofing process.
What are the advantages of offset printing?
• Works on a wider range of printing surfaces.
• Cheaper for high volume printing. The overall price per printed piece drops.
• Wide color gamut. Offset printing can accurately reproduce colors from the Pantone Matching System, while digital methods only simulate Pantone color using four-color printing.
What are the advantages of digital printing?
• Cheaper low volume printing. While the unit cost of each piece may be higher than with offset printing, when setup costs are included digital printing provides lower per unit costs for small print runs.
• Faster turnaround time.
• Variable data printing in-line.
Which printing method should I choose?
• We recommend that you use offset printing if:
• You require high-volume printing
• You want to print on paper thicker then 10 pt.
• The size of the finished product is larger then 12"x18"
• We recommend that you use digital printing if:
• You need a short turnaround time (shorter then 5 business days)
• You require low-volume printing
• You need variable data printing
Will you send me a proof before the printing is started?
Yes. We like to send proofs on all jobs, to be certain everything is just as you wanted.
Will the color of my finished piece match what I see on my PDF proof?
PDF proofs are not used for color matching. A PDF proof is for content and layout purposes only. We do not color match when printing in CMYK.
Can I print with PMS (Pantone Matching System) or other special inks?
• Yes, when printing offset.
• No, if your job is being run digitally.
What file formats do you require? How do I set up my files correctly?
We need a 1-up, press-quality PDF file with 1/8" bleed on all 4 sides. Please make sure that when you save your PDF there are no crop marks going into the bleed. You achieve this by offsetting your marks when making your PDF. Please follow these settings when exporting your PDF:
Do I have to impose my artwork myself?
No. RL Smith Graphics handles all imposition of files. If you submit the imposed file yourself, we will have to break it apart and rework it, causing you to be charged an extra fee.
What is bleed?
If any element on your document layout makes contact with the document border you will have to use bleed. The trick is to place the element so that it goes over the border where the document will be cropped after printing.
The term bleed is used for all objects overlapping the border of your document.
If you intend for your file to bleed, the bleed must be no less than 1/8" on all 4 sides.
Should I convert my files into CMYK?
Yes. Although files can easily be converted from RGB to CMYK, it is very important that you make the change on your end. Also, unless you are ordering a job that prints in PMS, you must convert all PMS colors to CMYK as well. RL Smith Graphics does not take responsibility for changes in color conversion.
What resolution should I use for the images in my artwork?
We recommend that all images be saved at 300 dpi and are actual size.
